Saint John, New Brunswick – The Greater Saint John community has once again shown its support for protecting our environment by participating in the 12th Marsh Creek Cleanup on Saturday, May 9th. The event was funded by Canaport LNG in partnership with ACAP Saint John's Green Network.
Despite the rain, a total of 211 volunteers participated in the event this year making it the largest one to date. Two Waste Management dumpsters and a City of Saint John garbage truck could not hold all of the debris collected in just two hours on Saturday morning. A total of approximately 5 tonnes of garbage was collected including: 92 shopping carts, 352 bags of garbage, 23 tires and about a tonne of construction and other items. Prizes were given to the team who collected the most garbage and the team who found the most unique item.
The Fundy Region Solid Waste Commission provided bins for refundable bottles and ALERT supplied cleanup kit bags for the event.
The Green Network is a partnership between the City of Saint John Municipal Operations and Engineering Department, ACAP Saint John, and the Fundy Region Solid Waste Commission. It is funded largely by the New Brunswick Environmental Trust Fund.
